Kamehameha I (1758-1819)

Kamehameha I (1758-1819),

Age: Historians have different dates of both his birth and date, so it is really unknown the exacts of when Kamehameha the great came into the world and when he left it.

Anime Influence: The iconic Kamehameha energy blast from the Dragon Ball series was named after King Kamehameha I of Hawaii. Akira Toriyama's Wife's "Nachi Mikami" suggestion to her husband "Akira Toriyama", the creator of Dragon Ball, was reportedly struggling to come up with a name for Master Roshi's signature energy attack. He wanted the name to incorporate "Kame" (亀), which means "turtle" in Japanese, as Master Roshi is the "Turtle Hermit" (Kame-Sennin). His wife, jokingly suggested "Kamehameha", noting that it would be easy to remember because it was the name of the first king of Hawaii. Toriyama loved it for its dual meaning of the "Turtle Destruction Wave" and being primarily inspired by a Hawaiian King. This unexpected connection to a Hawaiian monarch adds a unique layer of cultural trivia to one of the most famous attacks in anime and manga history.
