The 50th State of the Union
Statehood Day, also known as Annexation Day, Admission Day, and Takeover Day is a controversial American-Government designated Legal Holiday in the State of Hawaii that commemorates the state's admission to the United States on August 21, 1959. It's celebrated annually on the third Friday of August.
Military Resentment: The United States had annexed Hawaii for strategic reasons during the Spanish-American War. During World War II, Oahu served as the command post for the US operations in the Pacific.
