Danielle Tucker "Hawaii's Island Traffic Auntie"

She is one of the longest lasting voices in Hawaii radio and created a space to challenge the social practices, the options of what people could do, and would go places where some would never dare to walk in the world of sound. She definitely is the voice of traffic reports, the kids that grew up listening to her would be the next generation, a new generation listening to her. Later on with people who heard her voice they immediately knew it was going to be about the traffic, but there was so much more to her story that brought her to that point. It also can not be overlooked that the way that her pronunciations were really good made her stand out, and there would always be options of where to go, but it was just very easy to follow and was one of the best at announcements. What many would come to learn is that she would look at different sides of a topic, that some might overlook, she would touch on those points for full coverage of a topic discussion. She always knows the key things, always being pretty spot on, and still has her wits about her while she is navigating the nobs and technology of broadcasting. She has become a beloved voice in the world of Podcasting where she has shown she adapts to the times as she has fans who keep up to date on the golf scene while listening to her clear and sweet voice. It has earned her nicknames like, “Traffic Broadcast Legend”, “The Queen of Traffic report”, “The One Who Saved Me” from one person who missed a possibility of a bad accident from her traffic reports.

Radio is a bit romantic because a personality is someone who has someone's ear, they are listening, and are familiar with it.

Radio by the Table

At the table the whole family would be paying attention to the radio and it was usually radio news with everyone at the table. It was Danielle’s early introduction to radio news and the news broadcasts would cover things like the weather, the time, what was going on in the world, as well as local news.

UH Manoa in Journalism & Communications

Danielle Tucker would major in Journalism and Communications and interned at KHON2 News, KKUA, and KQMQ FM where she would later start working in a broom closet.

Thompson & Tucker

KKUA… Danielle Tucker worked with Michael Qseng and Bill Thompson on a program called “Thompson & Tucker”.

In the 1980s there was a constant stream of people going in and out where there was a sort of “Radio Scene” and that wasn’t including all the after hour pirates. Free concert tickets would be a perk and free entry into the clubs and some  workers partied way too hard when they would have to be back on the air the next day.

Dethroning Radio Royalty

It was shocking when Perry & Price in the Morning were dethroned as the Radio Royalty of the time slot where they held number one was an upset. KQMQ 93.1 was on the money with where things were headed towards the island was going and knowing ideas of what to do next was what many were thinking about when hearing that news.

Smokers Voice

In the golden years of radio people smoked not just because movies and ads made it cool, but radio personalities were going for a sort of what was known as the “smokers voice”, that was the in thing for awhile. It was like a gravelly tone that people could hear in the voice and some people grew to like it and some people were not all that into it. All sorts of people in Hawaii were smoking, celebrities were smoking, the cool kids were sneaking packs from the store and smoking at an age they shouldn’t have been.

Kari Steele became part of Michael Qseng's Morning Madness where people were left confused as listeners felt a loss of the flow and chemistry and Danielle had with Qseng with all the craziness that was very planned and she knew when things were coming.

Michael Qseng was one of Hawaii’s first “Shock Jocks” that was like comedy where it entertains listeners and attracts attention using humor, melodramatic exaggeration, and offensive material.

Locked and Loaded on Weird Al

There was one time he locked himself in the studio and played the same song over and over for hours, and it was “Eat it by- Weird Al”, so people listening would just be listening over and over to what comes down to a parent attempting to get their picky child to eat something on their plate.

An Accident that Rolled Down Hill

And then tragedy struck when there was a bad car accident involving one of them and some repercussions were drug use.

Layoff of the Legends by Summit Media

After a company could own six or seven companies things have become close to a monopoly. Places like Summit media would own: KPHW 104.3, KCCN-FM 100.3, KINE FM 105.1, KRTR-FM 96.3, and KPRP. 20 employees out of 26 lost their jobs and many of them were the familiar voices people expected and wanted to hear. It was very sudden  and the older crowds were completely shocked that it had happened, because she had always been a household name along with many of the others on radio that got let go. In the old days the individual stations would compete.
